I agree too that the design quality and design quality of eportfolios is very very variable... And most of the time, the important and necessary information is also missing (real competencies are not well detailled, only the realisations are spotted).

We try to select some "good practices" eportfolios to register on http://portfoliomix.me/ . If some readers here think their portfolio is a good example, welcome... We give more importance on how the portfolio is structured regarding the competencies, rather than the graphical quality itself.

Read you,

Scroll baby scroll ( your new site) and I love it. No thumbnails, it's all right there to see. Very nice.

On the thumbnails - Hmmmm...don't agree.

I did some testing with my own website and found when I put larger pictures up I got less feedback and/or inquiries and people spent less time on my site.

I figured that either:
a) people did not scroll down further than what they saw on the
initial screen (above the fold thing),
b) the images loaded to slowly (plus took up lots of bandwidth),
c) too much of a visual overload of so many large images,
d) all of the above.
I went to thumbnails and found people staying on my pages longer and more inquiries.

When displaying my paintings I have moved from all large photos of the painting and its details on a single, long scrolling page to a more compact one large photo, plus thumbnails. It works much better.
Example here:
http://charleskaufman.com/paintingsresources/womenpaintings/2008/fashion-alley-art-2011.html

I am always trying and testing new designs, but will never, ever include music on the website.

You made some really valid points. In design business your portfolio is your arsenal and ammo and it should be loaded all the time

Thanks for researching this topic. I totally agree. I'm amazed at how many otherwise good sites are spoiled by poor portfolio navigation and presentation. Same goes for Wordpress themes, which I'm currently researching.

Top of my frustration list is when there's no navigation from one zoomed image to the next ...so you're forced to open each image from its thumbnail.
